ICF Foundations

ICF, or insulated concrete forms, are an innovative method for constructing a concrete foundation for both low rise residential and commercial applications. ICF blocks consisted of two pieces of insulation held together by a connector that keeps them rigid. Rather than the traditional method of constructing forms and using mesh and rebar on top of the footer, the ICF blocks snap together like legos, and the concrete gets poured between the two layers of insulation.
There are a number of advantages of ICF foundation vs traditional poured concrete foundations:
- Being insulated on the outside of the house, they prevent condensation that can often be the cause of damp basements
- Your walls have up to an R-20 insulation value
- They can be poured at much colder temperatures than a traditional foundation
